Love the Plaubel images - I work in Brighton so will definitely be popping in this week to buy a copy of An American Mile! I hadn't heard of the George Gallery, great to see another gallery open in Brighton.
Interesting newsletter Kyle. Was keen on buying the Makina 670 but then got cold feet due to parts availability and issues many users have experienced so as much as I love it’s simple design and the great lens it sports, my concerns where with the cable in the bellows, and a few issue users have highlighted about the camera. Sad to think it’s a great camera yet it could have dire consequences when it breaks, almost like the Hassy XPan that most people refer to as an expensive brick even though I love the camera big time but not the price on a mint version from Japan. Love the wide version of the Makina even more.
Hey Sven, yeah I’ve certainly heard mixed reviews about the camera. The 670 version, which is newer than the 67, is apparently a bit more reliable. It is double stroke vs single, which people say helps with the winding issues. And also I’ve heard the meter wiring was rerouted.
Beautiful images - I love the Kodak Gold colours - brings back memories! I've had an AE1 and T90 from new in the 80's / 90's which are both still excellent but bought a EOS35 and have to say the results were really good - and it's a lot lighter than the T90!
Finland sure does look like the Great White North! Very excited to see that video and the one about printing as I have been doing it at myself and need to upgrade in 2025 on a budget. Take care Kyle!
Congrats on the gallery! That would be amazing visiting Kamera Store, although it would probably drain my bank account.
The EOS 30 is a fantastic modern SLR - I've owned probably 8 that series over the last decade. However, I had two consistent issues - sticky grip and mirror problems. Three of them the mirror detached, but they were the older 30/7/7E. I haven't seen that mirror issue with the newer versions (33/7N/7NE). I was able to cement the mirror back on two of them, but it's a real pain. The other one it had cracked. Sticky grip is just a mess. I've never seen it on the higher-end bodies (EOS 1, 1N, 1V), but on every lower Canon body.
I ended up moving away from the Elan/3# series several years ago because of the issues. Instead, I now carry an EOS 3 and a Rebel Ti. I typically pair those with either a 45mm Tamron VC F1.8 or 35mm Canon F2 IS. To me, far and away the biggest benefit of the new bodies is the image stabilization. I can shoot at ISO 1600 and hand-hold night shots that way. Why those two bodies? The Ti has no grip rubber to go bad, and with the battery grip it uses AA bats and the ergonomics are fantastic. The EOS 3 has the same rubber and mirror box guts as a 1-series, but lighter.
Thanks, Jeremy! And yeah, I didn’t know much about these cameras until looking into them recently. Definitely a rabbit hole to go down. The 30 I picked up is in great condition, with no sticky grip. I have found myself checking out some other models already though.
Congratulations on the gallery! I just saw a bargain copy of the Plaubel Makina 670 at KEH and it piqued my interest. Those are beautiful images...great timing on the upcoming printing video. I will definitely tune in - need to know for an upcoming project. Thanks for this post!
Always fun to read about photography in Finland from an outsider’s perspective! Kamerastore are awesome.

Cheers, Irv! I didn’t manage to get down there this week, but hopefully will have some copies there next week.

I’ve been a big fan of Gold in 120. Can’t beat the price, and it looks great as well.

So incredibly similar, Matthew. Hope you enjoy the video.

Thanks, Juliette!
Congrats on the gallery! I am excited to see the video from Finland. Would love to visit Kamera Store too one day.
Thanks, Wesley! And yeah, you’d love it out there. You should try to visit them if you can.
I was late to reading this one, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Congrats on making such great progress over these years!
